Server Density feature release – user permissions

September 3, 2009

We just pushed out an update to our server monitoring service, Server Density, that adds server grouping and user permissions.
User permissions
These new features are available to all account holders and allow you to configure which users have access to specific servers. Servers can be placed into groups and users given varying levels of access. You create an assign servers to groups when adding/editing them (Servers tab) and modify user permissions when adding/editing them (Users tab).

The functionality has been designed to be as easy to use as possible but includes full documentation here.

Permissions also automatically apply to both the iPhone application (without any need for any updates) and API.

Note that there is a minor change in how the iPhone now behaves with regards to non-admin users and pausing/resuming alerts. Previously all users could pause/resume all alerts. Now, although non-admin users will be able to see all alerts for the servers they can view, they will only be able to pause/resume alerts belonging to them.
